GENERAL MUSIC INDUSTRY: 10 Recording Tips for Singers

Doing a great home recording is easier than it has ever been, but that doesn’t mean there still aren’t challenges to getting great tracks. Here are some tips to help you get that studio “magic” at home.

Grammy award-winning engineer, producer, and songwriter John Jones (Celine Dion, Duran Duran, Sir Paul McCartney) noted that “you can nowadays get a great sounding record at home. The key is to be able to get what you’re hearing.” Just because Pro Tools is what many pros use, doesn’t mean something less involved (and less expensive) won’t work as well. Get a software program that gives you the flexibility you need, and that is easy for you to use…

WEB/TECH: Porn Industry Aroused by Iphone Facetime

You will not be surprised that the porn industry is all over the iPhone 4 like a bad case of the clap. The latest business opportunity is, almost inevitably, FaceTime, although it probably won’t actually be called Face Time.

In the U.K., the ever-accurate Daily Mail reports that “video-sex chat services [...] are hiring workers through internet adverts.” These services would connect you one-on-one with the sex worker of your choice…

PERFORMANCE/TOUR: Tom Petty Taking Fans on a Walk, Going Beyond His Hits

Over the years Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have made a lot of repetitive songs that don’t force you to think about them as such. Sometimes they’ve got sweet bridges and tiny solos; they’re layered and warm and bar-band authentic.

They’re about rock ‘n’ roll as sacrament, highways, the sun in your hair, boys and girls turning one anothers’ heads. They’re locked into their sentimentality and carry a promise that Mr. Petty will never change much…

PERFORMANCE/TOUR: Marc Hoffman Brings Original Jazz to Hearst Tower Plaza

(CHARLOTTE, NC)–In association with the recent release of his new CD “Curioso,” recording artist Marc Hoffman of Salisbury will perform a solo piano instrumental concert at Hearst Tower Plaza in Charlotte on Thursday, August 5, from noon until 2 p.m., that will include tunes from the CD.

“Curioso” represents a wide variety of jazz styles, some of which were inspired by other musicians’ work. The song “Hefti,” for example, channels the light, lyrical work of Neal Hefti. “Pontified” is Hoffman’s take on the late ’70s music of Jean-Luc Ponty. “Introspective” is smooth jazz reminiscent of David Benoit. And the Vince Guaraldi influence is apparent on the title tract, “Curioso…

Jane Krakowski’s ‘free and easy, breezy good time’

One is a song made famous by Sesame Street , while the other is a thinly veiled song about drug use by Ella Fitzgerald.
