Trio of Doom

Trio of Doom Biography

The Trio of Doom was a short-lived yet legendary all-star jazz-fusion trio comprised of John McLaughlin on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on bass and Tony Williams on drums. The threesome’s only public appearance was on March 3, 1979, at the U.S. State Department-sponsored Havana Jam festival in Cuba. Five days after that performance, the three musicians went into Columbia Records’ New York studio to record the material they’d written for the Havana show. Most of that session wouldn’t be heard by the public until 2007, when the tracks were combined with recordings of the Havana Jam set and released as The Trio of Doom Live.
